Children's Butterfly Art Contest Winners
sponsored by Landstar Lakeland and Point Engineering

Sixty-five designs were selected from approximately 13,000 submissions from students from kindergarten to twelfth grade in Polk County. Kaleidoscope committee members were overwhelmed by the number of entries and enthusiasm over the project. The selection process was very difficult as there were so many creative, colorful, and outstanding designs.

The selected students were awarded a 20 inch aluminum Emperor shaped butterfly to apply their design. The butterflies were unveiled at The Polk Theatre on January 27, 2007.  They were then on public display until the end of March 2007. On April 27, 2007 the butterflies were sold by silent auction at the Butterfly Ball Auction at the Lake Mirror Center.  The proceeds from the auction of these 65 butterflies exceeded $21,900. All of the proceeds will go towards the construction of CommonGround, Polk County’s first inclusive playground for children of varying abilities.
