The artists have been selected, the designs have been chosen, and now the fun begins!! The butterflies will be transformed into unique works of art throughout the summer of 2006. Sixty-seven artists were chosen ranging in ages from 12 to 74. They come from all over Florida and as far away as New York. There are twenty-seven artists from Lakeland.
Sponsored by businesses, organizations, and individuals, the butterflies will be mounted on a raised pole and displayed in various downtown Lakeland locations from October 2006 - April 2007. Following the display, select butterflies will be sold at the Butterfly Ball auction on April 27, 2007.
An honorarium of $1,000.00 will be awarded to each selected artist upon the completion of a butterfly selected by a Sponsor. Artists can be awarded multiple contracts and the $1,000.00 is paid for each design/completion. As part of the exhibit, each butterfly will have a plaque listing the Butterfly's title, the Sponsor, and the artist that will be on display for 6 months in the downtown Lakeland area. |
