Butterfly Benefactors
Eighty-seven Butterfly Benefactors consisting of businesses, organizations, and individuals have sponsored the butterflies at one of three levels of sponsorship - Emporer ($25,000); Monarch ($10,000); and Swallowtail ($4,000).
Every butterfly will be constructed of aluminum with a wing span of 4 to 7 feet and will be mounted on a raised pole. Each will prominently display a plaque naming the Benefactor, the name of the butterfly, and the artist.
On October 14, 2006 the Monarch Butterflies will be unveiled to the public at the Butterfly Bash in Munn Park. The throng of butterflies will blanket Lake Mirror Promenade, Lake Morton, Munn Park, and other downtown locations from October 2006 through April 2007.
The butterflies will be a natural draw for visitors to the downtown area. Locator maps will be distributed statewide and will be available at selected downtown locations. This information will also be posted on the official Kaleidscope website, www.kaleidoscopelakeland.com.
When Kaleidoscope comes to an end, some of the flock will be sold at the Butterfly Ball auction. Fifty percent of the earnings from an auctioned butterfly will go to a local charity of the Benefactor's choice. The remaining fifty percent will go to the CommonGround project.
